About the Author: Jean Fritz
Jean Fritz, a children's author of wonderful history books, did not always enjoy American history. Born in China, she came to America during the revolution in China. Her parents, who were missionaries in China, decided that it was to dangerous and that they should return to the United States. Fritz was not accustomed to American ways, especially in school. She did not understand why they were required to learn American history. She grew to enjoy American history and made a breakthrough in her career when she retold a story from the novel The Cabin Faced West. She began writing short biographies of famous Americans. She has written about many historical figures and events including George Washington and events that happened during the American Revolution. About the Author: James I. Robertson, Jr.
James I. Robertson, a distinguished history professor at Virginia Tech, is a Civil War scholar. He was the director of the U.S. Civil War Centennial Commission and has worked with many presidents. He is the author or editor of over twenty books including a massive biography of "Stonewall" Jackson which won eight national awards and was used a the basis for the movie "Gods and Generals". He has a PH.D. degree for Emory University and doctorates from Randolph-Macon College and Shenandoah University. James M. McPherson is best known for his book Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era. McPherson was born in South Dakota and was raised in Minnesota. He did not develop a fascination for the Civil War until he was a graduate student at John Hopkins University. He has written several books about abolition, the war, Abraham Lincoln and reconstruction. McPherson has been a professor at Princeton University since 1962 and is also a Professor of American History at George Henry Davis.
